The Yaesu FT-991A is a compact all-mode transceiver covering HF/50/144/430 MHz, designed to deliver maximum operating flexibility. It features C4FM digital mode, an automatic antenna tuner, real-time waterfall display, and an integrated USB interface for digital operation.
Advanced Receiver Performance
The receiver architecture is inspired by the high-end FT-DX series, ensuring excellent performance across HF, VHF and UHF bands. Its triple conversion design with a 69.450 MHz IF and 3 kHz roofing filter provides outstanding selectivity when handling closely spaced signals.
The first IF mixer for HF/50 MHz uses low-noise dual-gate MOS-FET 3SK294 devices, delivering high dynamic range. A dedicated and optimized mixer is used for VHF/UHF to ensure superior performance at higher frequencies.
Band-Optimized RF Amplifier
The RF amplifier stage is optimized for each operating band. Selectable IPO / AMP1 / AMP2 modes allow effective adaptation to varying signal conditions.
High-Performance IF DSP Technology
The integrated IF-DSP uses the TMS320C6746 processor (3000 MIPS / 2250 MFLOPS), the same found in the FT-DX series, offering exceptional interference rejection across all modes and bands.
Key DSP functions include:
- IF WIDTH and IF SHIFT for signal optimization
- 16-step digital noise reduction
- DNF (Auto Notch) for efficient beat-note suppression
- CONTOUR function to enhance the desired signal
- Manual NOTCH filter with adjustable bandwidth
Final Stage and Integrated Tuner
The HF/50 MHz final stage uses a push-pull MOS-FET RD100HHF1 amplifier delivering 100 W with low distortion. The VHF/UHF final uses the high-power MOS-FET RD70HUF2, providing 50 W. The automatic antenna tuner covers 1.8–54 MHz.
Advanced C4FM Digital Features
The FT-991A fully supports C4FM digital communication, including:
- V/D Mode for simultaneous voice and data with error correction
- Voice FR Mode for high-quality digital audio
- AMS for automatic switching between digital and FM
- GM (Group Monitor) to display nearby group members
- 126 DSQ codes for precise station selection
* FR Data Mode does not support sending or receiving images over C4FM.
Spectrum Analyzer with Waterfall Display
The high-resolution spectrum analyzer with waterfall visualization allows instant band evaluation. The ASC function automatically switches between spectrum sweep and received audio during tuning.
3.5" Color Touch Display
The responsive 3.5" TFT touch panel provides quick access to settings and operational parameters. Its ergonomic design ensures intuitive and comfortable operation.
